At the time of his Paris stay, one of the “curators” of the social-cultural sensibility of Dezső Malonyay was his friend and fellow writer Zsigmond Justh. The selection from their 1893–1894 correspondence reveals the significance of this guided Paris experience both in shaping the literary and professional career of Malonyay and in his writing his monumental decadent novel, Az utolsó (The Last).

Keywords: correspondance, Paris, fin de siècle, decadence, Dezső Malonyay, Zsigmond Justh.
