SÁNDOR PETŐFI AND JÚLIA SZENDREY

Abstract

The paper, which follows a previously held conference, is about the most famous poetic couple in Hungarian literature. It took a fleeting year for the young people to get married after minor misunderstandings. Hungarian history: the civil revolution and the struggle for freedom, however, shook this relationship; Júlia Szendrey became a widow, and, in order to raise her only child from Petőfi, she married the historian Árpád Horvát. After this second marriage, which resulted in another three children, Júlia Szendrey began her literary career.
