Abstract

The Covasna-born actress and writer Rózsa Ignácz is only mentioned in general terms in Hungarian literary history, with several scholars citing this as a flaw. However, in Covasna, even from the early 1990s, efforts were made to revive the memory of Rózsa Ignácz. The study is committed to presenting how the memory of Rózsa Ignácz was built in Covasna over the past 30 years, who led this process and what steps were taken to create the cult. At the same time, the forms of memory are analyzed, and the basis of the cult built around the writer is outlined. The research is based on an interview and two memorial books, which helped establish the final conclusions. The main conclusion would be that the revival of the cult of Rózsa Ignácz in Covasna is actually an act of gratitude on the part of the locals, for the way the writer expressed her love for her native village in her works of fiction and autobiography.
