THE SOCIETY OF ACCELERATION, THE MEMORY OF THE MOMENT

Abstract

The present paper offers an understanding on communicative memory in the digital age within the analytical framework of Hartmut Rosa’s social theory. Applying the concepts of social acceleration, resonance and (un)controllability my aim is to comprehend the social and cultural implications of the digital turn, its impacts on the production and treatment of memory objects. Comparing how memory was formulated, communicated, and preserved in orality, analogue and digital literacy, I elaborate on the acceleration of the production of memory and the (un)controllability of the digitally externalized objects of memory.
