WORDS AND MEANINGS: THE JOY OF AMAZEMENT IN THE NAGY MAGYAR TÁJSZÓTÁR(GREAT DICTIONARY OF HUNGARIAN REGIONALISMS)

Abstract

The author sets up a broader presentation of the large-scale work Nagy magyar tájszótár (Great Dictionary of Hungarian Regionalisms), referrring to several possibilities for capitalizing on the material, as the articles included in the dictionary present, in a special way, the traditional rural life through the entries dealing with agriculture, nutrition, folk medicine, or the diversity of superstitions, beliefs, etc. The author looks at regionalisms from three different points of view, illutrating their criteria with examples from the dictionary, concluding that the linguistic material presents a complex approach of the Hungarian speaker.
