GYÖRGY TVERDOTA

Abstract

The author refers to a conference volume as subject of this paper examining the works of Minka Czóbel (1855–1947) and several other Hungarian female authors of the 19–20th centuries and their perception. The volume itself, in addition to presenting individual studies, emphasizes and discusses the problem of professional recognition and social integration of women as creators (writers, visual artists, actors) from several points of view. The author points out the differences and dangers inherent in the homogenizing approach (since all these creators had their own identities), and the fact that social attitudes towards the idea and practice of independent creation are changing at a slow pace.
